Destination Baden-Württemberg, Germany

In Baden-Württemberg lies the mountain area of the Swabian Alps. This is a lovely walking and cycling area, with diverse hilly and mountainous scenery, green meadows, and romantic Mediaeval villages.

More to the south you will find the Bodensee, Germany’s biggest lake, which borders on Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The lake is ideal for water sports enthusiasts, but the area around it is also pretty. The surrounding scenery is hilly, with vineyards and orchards, and around the lake you can visit a number of attractive sites. This includes Konstanz, the islands of Mainau and Reichenau (Unesco World Heritage),as well as beautiful Lindau.

In the north, in the Neckartal (Neckar Valley), you can visit a couple of nice castles and palaces, and also university towns and other old towns, such as Heidelberg and Tübingen.

The capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart, is beautifully situated in the Neckartal. This city is well worth a visit. Visitors will find art, culture, and other sights with different architectural styles, such as the Baroque Neues Schloss or the Jugendstil market hall. If you are looking for a good atmosphere, you should go there during one of the popular festivals, such as the wine festival ‘Weindorf’, or the attractive Christmas Market. At night, you can taste the regional cuisine or visit a winery.

The famous region of the Black Forest can also be found in Baden-Württemberg, in the southwest -you will find a description of this area in the tourist information.
