Destination Budapest, Hungary

Hungary's capital Budapest is also known as the 'Pearl of the Danube', mainly due to its cultural wealth and stunning location on the Danube. This river splits the city in half: the hilly and historic Buda on one side and the flat and modern Pest on the other.

The city has plenty of activities and sights to offer during your visit. Sights include the Parliament's building, the Roman amphitheatre, the Royal Palace or the Turkish Baths.

And its theatres, events, museums, and brimming nightlife. There is no shortage of festivals. Some of the better known festivals are the Spring Festival (March-April), the Summer Opera and Ballet Festival (August) and the International Wine and Champagne Festival (September). Sports enthusiasts may wish to visit the Grand Prix Formula 1 (August) and the Super Marathon, which is run from Vienna to Budapest (October).

And when you are ready for a bit of relaxation, you can visit one of the 50 bath houses in Budapest. The best known ones are the Gellért bath house (with a beautiful Jugenstil interior) and the Széchenyi bath house.

Visit the caves below Buda. Or the Duna-Ipoly National Park near the famous Danube Bend and its Börzöny mountains, a beautiful wildlife area full of water and springs, streams and castles. In this wildlife area you can walk along part of the marked Blue Route, the national walking route.
