Destination Costa del Azahar, Spain

Between the Costa Blanca and the Costa Daurada you will find the Costa del Azahar (the Orange Blossom Coast). This coastal area has 120 kilometres of sandy beaches and rocks, and is also characterised by hills, orchards (the Huertas) and the rugged mountain areas of the interior. It has an abundance of picturesque villages, tourist centres and extraordinary Roman remains. Some of the seaside resorts on this coast are Peòíscola, Benicàssim, Oropesa del Mar, Las Fuentas, Alcossebre and Cap i Corb.

You should visit Valencia for its culture, historic buildings, sights, and also art.

The region is known for its old castle on the peninsula of Peniscola. Here you can wander through the streets of the old town and visit the 13th century castle. Because the castle is located at the highest point of the peninsula, it offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea.

The province of Castellón, in the south of the region, has an important prehistoric past, so there are many sights to be found in this area. The caves with prehistoric paintings have recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. 56km off the coast of Castellón, you will find the natural park of the archipelago of Columbretes. This archipelago of volcanic islands is an ecologically interesting area with limited access. Further into the interior of this province, you will find the rugged natural beauty of the Sierra de Espadán. Here you can indulge in active sports, such as climbing, mountain biking and kayaking.

The southern coast is famous for its citrus fruit. If you happen to be in the area, don’t forget to visit the Museo de la Naranja (museum of oranges) in Burriana.
