Fribourg is both a city and a Swiss province located near the regions Bern and Wallis. Two languages are spoken here: French and German. As a city Fribourg is a popular congress town but is also famous for its many recreational facilities. Because the city was built on rocks and water, it is a special heritage from the Middle ages and is considered as one of the prettiest architectural wonders of Europe. The nicest medieval cityscapes can be found in Fribourg and its many churches, fountains, monuments and city houses create an authentic vibe.     Fribourg:
  • Explore the regional capital with the greatest cityscape in Europe.
  • Estavayer-le-Lac on the lake of Neufchatel, interesting for its centre and the castle
  • Gruyères, famous for its cheese, but its castle too
  • Murten (on the Murtensee), is a nice place with medieval monuments and the Berntor for example.
  • Schwarzsee has a small ski area where you can hit the slopes.
    Vaud:
  • Lake Geneva and lake Neufchatel are lovely places to relax on the waterside.
  • Montreux is more famous - with lots on offer.
  • You will find pretty city centres in Avenches with Roman ruins and Payerne with a medieval castle.
  • Yverdon was one of the cities which organised the Expo 2002.
