Experience for yourself the beautiful landscapes of Niedersachsen and what nature here has to offer!
The 2 national parks of Niedersachsen are a truly breathtaking experience with nature. The national park "Wattenmeer", with its endless salt marshes, dunes and sandbanks is the habitat of seals, mussels, crabs and rare bird species. The national park Harz is quite different – a mountain range with vast forests and crystal clear lakes.
A number of water sports are possible along the large and small rivers which run through the Niedersachsen. There are canoes, waterskis, surfboards and boats and sailboats everywhere you look on the rivers, canals, and vast lakes, on the rough North Sea or on the East Frisian islands. In short, Niedersachsen offers every opportunity for a holiday by or on the water!
The cities of Niedersachsen also encourage you to come visit. Thus, in addition to museums, art halls and galleries, you’ll find cultural events such as traditional shooting festivals, Medieval markets, firework shows and the markets and Christmas markets, all full of character.
A typical characteristic of Niedersachsen is the some 800 watermills and 600 windmills. Many of these mills have been lovingly restored and can be visited.
The capital city of this region is Hannover. Hannover has a historic inner city with a number of beautiful restored churches. Among the most important attractions of Hannover are the Grosser Garten of Herrenhausen. The park has been fully made up in Baroque style.
Hannover is also known for the important industry exhibitions which are held here in the Hannover Messe. This led in part to the great World Exhibition being held here in 2000.
