With a length of 545 km, the Mosel is one of the longest affluents of the Rhine. You will find the Mosel valley between Trier and Koblenz, where the Mosel flows into the Rhine. The Mosel region is rightfully called one of the prettiest regions in Germany. There are huge and magnificent castles on both sides of the river, looking out over the wide vineyards. The white grapes are used for the delicious Mosel wine which is very popular for its sweet, stimulating and typically mineral taste.
If you are looking for an active holiday, this is also an excellent region. You can enjoy a long walk and/or bicycle ride through the woody hills and through pleasant country villages. Cycling and walking are very popular activities, and in winter you can also go cross-country skiing here! After a long and invigorating walk, you get 'home' again in your cottage in the Mosel, where you can then lounge on the sofa with a good book.
This woody area is particularly popular in early and late season. This is because in those periods the countryside shows magnificent colours. But you can also have a great time enjoying and relaxing here during high season. And last but not least, you really should try a lovely glass of Mosel wine during your visit! The special landscaping with the best vines is based on adventurous steep hills and clay grounds. Every place in the Mosel - however small - has its own local wine and folklore festival. For many, wine tasting in one of the many small wine exploitations in the region is a must for any holiday in the Mosel.
